WHY YOU SHOULD STILL PLAY THE GAMECUBE
Today we look at why we think the GameCube still deserves a place in your gaming setup! From its awesome games to its instantly recognisable design, there is plenty to love about this little console.
It is easy to pack away an old console when you buy a newer one. But the GameCube is one of those consoles worth making room for. Whether you grew up playing it or never got the chance, there are plenty of games that make picking up a controller feel worthwhile.
You do not need a huge collection or a dedicated gaming room either. A console, a controller and a few games you actually want to play are enough. Sometimes an old favourite is exactly what you need when you cannot decide what to play.
FEATURING SOME OF THE BEST GAMES OF ALL TIME
One of the best things about the GameCube is the mix of games. You can go from racing with friends to exploring somewhere completely different on your own. Games like Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros. Melee and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker all give you a different reason to keep coming back.
If you need somewhere to start, here are a few well-loved picks we at kaico love!
- Mario Kart: Double Dash!!: A great choice for a bit of friendly competition. Having two characters in each kart gives it a different feel from other Mario Kart games.
- Super Mario Sunshine: A colourful adventure that is worth trying if you fancy exploring somewhere sunny and taking on a few challenging levels. (OUR PICK ⭐️)
- Super Smash Bros. Melee: Perfect for a few competitive rounds with friends, especially when everyone thinks they are the best player in the room.
- Luigi’s Mansion: A slightly spooky change of pace, with Luigi exploring a haunted mansion and catching ghosts along the way.
- The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker: A good pick if you want a bigger adventure to take your time with

MORE THAN NOSTALGIA
For anyone who grew up with a GameCube, the experience starts before the game does. Choosing a disc, finding your controller and settling down to play can bring back memories straight away.
But you do not need childhood memories to enjoy it. Playing an older game for the first time lets you discover what you like about it yourself. You might finally understand why a friend has been talking about the same game for years.
However, speaking of nostalgia, don't we all miss and love that gamecube start-up video and sound!
A UNIQUE DESIGN
The GameCube does not look like something trying to disappear into your TV stand. Its compact, boxy shape has its own personality, and it is part of what makes the console so recognisable.
The controller stands out too. The big green A button, smaller surrounding buttons and yellow C-stick give it a layout that feels different from many other controllers. It might look a little unusual at first, but for plenty of players, picking one up is part of the appeal.
IN CONCLUSION
Keeping a GameCube in your setup does not mean choosing retro gaming over modern games. It just gives you another option. Some evenings you might want a new release, while others are better suited to a familiar game and a couple of hours on the sofa.
In our opinion, the gamecube is a perfect choice for gaming with family and/or friends with a bunch of incredible games and a unique experience!
If your GameCube is sitting in a cupboard, it might be time to give it another go. You do not need to rebuild your whole setup — just make a little space and choose a game worth coming back to.
P.S dont blame us when you get excited hearing that startup melody again.
